Chilling Political Ad Calls for Violence, “Clenched Fist”

Voice of sanity needed to call-out the hyperbole that is inciting people to violence.

ARTISANAL PRESS — Some call it a shot across the bow of civilized politics, as the nation reacts to the release of a political ad appearing to openly endorse militancy and violence targeting fellow Americans.

After going to great lengths to depict a conspiratorial effort to rob people of their freedoms, the ad calls for an organized resistance — a resistance, unified under the symbol of a raised, clenched fist of “truth.”

“We have always had to work to… achieve the great ideals of our founding fathers. And it has been people, individuals who have banded together… and supported those ideals, who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve bled — yes, some of them have died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before; we can do this again.

The call to violence is certainly not subtle — and certainly, only a fascist could have such nostalgia for America’s long history of colonialism, imperialism, and patriarchy.

If sowing fear was the goal, then based on reactions to this ad on social media, the producers of it can pat themselves on the back. “With this kind of irresponsible rhetoric on the airwaves, how much longer until some right-wing militia nutjobs start shooting at elected Democrats?,” asks one concerned user on Facebook. “How much longer until you start seeing right-wing volunteers marching through the streets, dressed head-to-toe in homemade black uniforms, providing ‘security’ to their supposedly ‘moderate’ friends?”

From Portland to Berkeley, right-wing political terror is being carried out under the undeniably-violent banner of the Clenched Fist of Truth.

“Does the left have to be afraid of terror attacks when they gather in public now?,” asks another user, on Twitter.

Some say that a voice of sanity is now needed, in the wake of a bitterly divisive election, to calm the endless din of hyperbole that is inciting people to violence — and, perhaps, to simply call a spade a spade, regarding the nature of that violence.
