ARTISANAL PRESS — Portland-based artist Sarah Levy has taken the world by storm with her recent political artwork, portraying Donald Trump’s face in the novel medium of menstrual blood. Coverage in hundreds of news outlets and in dozens of languages has quickly helped photos of the painting go viral on social media. Levy intends to sell the original work off to the highest bidder so that she can donate the proceeds. As of the time of publication of this article, prints of the artwork are on-sale for $20.
“That [Trump] thinks he can bring up the healthy functioning of women’s reproductive systems to insult women’s intelligence is a big problem that I think needs to be called out,” Levy told BuzzFeed News in an interview on Sunday.
And the Donald has, evidently, taken notice.
According to our sources close to the Trump presidential campaign, Trump was made aware of the tweet at some point during the evening on Monday. Trump reportedly flew into a fit of rage, mocking the work of art; Levy; and the entire female process of menstruation itself.
It was during a particularly vociferous portion of the latter rant that Trump talked himself into ripping his own head off, forcefully smashing it onto a canvas, and tweeting a photo of the ensuing carnage back at the artist who had mocked him. “How about I make my face look like a big gooey, bloody mess?,” Trump allegedly shouted at no one in particular, before proceeding with his plan.
Trump explained that if Levy was going to use menstruation to paint his face, then turnabout should be fair play.
A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign has confirmed that the painting — titled “Whatever Yourself” — will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to an as-yet-undetermined charity.
Trump himself was unavailable for comment, due to an unspecified medical emergency.
